释义 | Araguari Brazil city, western Minas Gerais estado (state), Brazil, on the Jordão River, a tributary of the Paranaíba River, at 3,051 feet (930 metres) above sea level. Formerly called Freguesia do Brejo Alegre, the settlement was made the seat of a municipality in 1882 and was elevated to city rank in 1888. Araguari's main source of income is from the large herds of cattle raised in the hinterlands, where soy and coffee are also cultivated. The city has an airport and is accessible by railroad and highway from other urban centres in Minas Gerais and Goiás states. Important nearby cities include Uberlândia, 25 miles (40 km) to the south, and Uberaba, 84 miles (135 km) to the southeast. Pop. (2005 est.) 98,800. |
