Sangrur is an agricultural market with some light industry, including hand-loom weaving and handicrafts. There are good road and rail connections with the rest of Punjab and with neighbouring states. Sangrur lies in a region that is largely flat and dry, with a large area under irrigation. The principal crops in the area are wheat, cotton, gram (chickpeas), and millet. Pop. (2001) 77,989.
