The town lies in a mountainous area important for cultivation of coffee, cacao, and oil palms. A large portion of these crops is transported from Palimé by road and rail to Lomé. Palimé serves as a major centre for commercial trade in Togo. The Ewe people inhabit the town and surrounding area. Pop. (1981) 27,669.
