释义 | Cignani, Carlo Italian painter born May 15, 1628, Bologna, Papal States 【Italy】 died Sept. 6, 1719, Forlì last important painter to carry on the Bolognese Baroque tradition in his use of ample, generalized forms, fluent compositions, deep colours, and blended contrasts of light and shadow. Although trained in Bologna, mainly under Francesco Albani, he was chiefly influenced by Correggio. Cignani's masterpiece, a fresco of the “Assumption of the Virgin” in the cupola of Forlì Cathedral, is closely based on Correggio's cupola painting in Parma Cathedral. |
