A hilltop town, it is situated on the highest of the wooded ridges that comprise The Weald (between 500 and 800 ft 【150 and 240 m】). Located in a forest area where settlement is typically in small hamlets linked by a maze of narrow lanes, Crowborough has grown by the joining together of a number of these hamlets so that the present urban area is a diffuse, disjointed spread of houses and shops.
