释义 | East Tennessee State University university, Johnson City, Tennessee, United States public, coeducational institution of higher learning in Johnson City, Tennessee, U.S. It is part of the State University and Community College System of Tennessee. The university includes the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Public and Allied Health, Nursing, and Applied Science and Technology; the schools of Graduate Studies and Continuing Studies; and the James H. Quillen College of Medicine. It offers more than 100 undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs. There are off-campus centres in Elizabethton, Bristol, Greeneville, and Kingsport. Total enrollment is about 12,000. The university opened in 1911 as East Tennessee State Normal School. The name was changed several times, reflecting the school's evolving status and mission, and university status was granted in 1963. The medical college was created by the state legislature in 1974. East Tennessee State is the only school in the world that awards a master's degree in storytelling. The university's Center for Appalachian Studies and Services focuses on the Appalachian region and includes a bluegrass and country music program as well as the B. Carroll Reece Memorial Museum, which has exhibits on regional history and art. |
