Feuer Peak (5,241 feet 【1,598 metres】) of the Höllen Mountains overlooks the town. Ebensee was first cited in 1450 and established a saltworks in 1607. The town continued to produce salt into the 21st century. Ebensee's other products include chemicals (soda and ammonia), concrete, and plastic goods. Pop. (2006) 8,376.
