词条 Aegithalidae
释义
Aegithalidae
bird family
songbird family that includes the long-tailed tits (or titmice) of the Old World and the bushtits (bushtit) of North America. Both groups are sometimes considered subfamilies of the family Paridae (order Passeriformes). The eight species are small, arboreal insect eaters with long, narrow tails; tiny bills; and silky, plain plumage. The nest is a thick-walled, hanging pouch with a side entrance. The best-known species is the common, long-tailed tit (Aegithalos caudatus) of Eurasia. It is pinkish and black, with white head, and its tail makes up half of its 14-centimetre (6-inch) total length. One of the world's tiniest birds is the pygmy tit (Psaltria exilis) of Java, with head and body length of 7 cm.
