词条 | Akan states |
释义 | Akan states historical region, West Africa historical complex of gold-producing forest states in western Africa lying between the Comoé (Komoé River) and Volta (Volta River) rivers (in an area roughly corresponding to the coastal lands of the modern republics of Togo, Ghana, and, in part, Côte d'Ivoire). Their economic, political, and social systems were transformed from the 16th to the 18th century by trade with Europeans on the coast. Of the northern Akan (or Brong) states the earliest (established c. 1450) was Bono; of the southern the most important were Denkyera, Akwamu, Fante (Fanti) (Fante confederacy), and Asante. |
