释义 | Vicksburg Mississippi, United States ![]() Vicksburg is a major tourist spot (including, since the early 1990s, gambling casinos) and a shipping centre for the surrounding agricultural region. Manufactures include wood products, light fixtures, and metal products, and poultry processing is also important. The city has a branch of Hinds Community College, and the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station is nearby. Historic homes can be viewed during annual spring and fall pilgrimages. Vicksburg National Military Park, established in 1899, occupies 2.7 square miles (7 square km) and partially encircles the city. It preserves the site of the Civil War campaigns and contains Vicksburg National Cemetery, the restored Union gunboat USS Cairo, numerous monuments and reconstructed trenches, and other fortifications. The Gray and Blue Naval Museum contains a diorama of the siege of Vicksburg and the world's largest collection of Civil War gunboat models. Inc. 1825. Pop. (1990) 20,908; (2000) 26,407. |
