Albertinelli and Fra Bartolommeo were fellow pupils of Cosimo Rosselli and later painted many works together. Albertinelli's chief paintings are in Florence, notably his masterpiece, the “Visitation of the Virgin” (1503; Uffizi). His style, similar to that of Fra Bartolommeo, is characterized by simple dignity and monumentality and shows particularly the influence of Leonardo da Vinci in its aristocratic, smiling figures, intimate compositions, and strong contrast of light and dark (chiaroscuro).
