释义 | Washington Redskins American football team ![]() ![]() One of the wealthiest NFL franchises, the Redskins used their significant means to pioneer the use of sports broadcast media. In 1944 they assembled a radio network to broadcast games throughout the southern United States, and by 1950 the entire Redskins season was televised. The Redskins also have some of the most passionate fans in professional football; since 1967 the team has sold out every season, the longest string of sold-out games in the NFL. All three Redskins Super Bowl championships (since the 1970 merger of the American Football League and the NFL) were won under coach Joe Gibbs, winner of more games than any other coach in Redskins' history. Gibbs's record includes eight play-off appearances and four NFC championships along with the Super Bowl victories. A testament to Gibbs's coaching ability—and to the overall quality of his teams—is the fact that each of the Redskins Super Bowl-winning teams was led by a different quarterback: Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien. Running back John Riggins, wide receiver Art Monk, and cornerback Darrell Green all starred for the Redskins during their Super Bowl era and were subsequently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The long list of Redskins inductees from other eras includes coach George Allen (Allen, George), quarterback Sonny Jurgensen, and wide receivers Charley Taylor and Bobby Mitchell. |
