Icelandic island in the Greenland Sea, 50 miles (80 km) north of the town of Akureyri on the northern coast of Iceland. The island, 3 miles (5 km) long and 2 square miles (5 square km) in area, straddles the Arctic Circle and is the northernmost inhabited location in Iceland and the only part of the country within the Arctic Circle.
