释义 | Hillerød Denmark city, northeastern Sjælland (Zealand), Denmark. It developed around Frederiksborg Castle, which was built (1602–20) by Christian IV in Dutch Renaissance style on the site of an earlier castle. Danish kings were crowned there from 1660 to 1840, and it was a favourite royal residence until gutted by fire in 1859. It was restored, and the National Historical Museum was founded there in 1878. Hillerød is a flourishing market town and rail junction, supported by the fertile surrounding countryside. The city has an electronics industry and several institutions of higher learning, including the Danish Forest College. Pop. (2008 est.) city, 29,296; (2005 est.) mun., 44,520. |
