city, Ōsaka fu (urban prefecture), west-central Honshu, Japan, bordering Ōsaka city. The city is located on the left bank of the Yodo River and is known for its cultivation of lotus flowers. After the establishment of a railway connection to Ōsaka in 1909, industrialization was rapid. The Matsushita Electric Industrial Company moved to Kadoma in 1933 to establish factories producing electrical machinery, appliances, plastics, and building materials. Pop. (2005 prelim.) 131,674.

formerly Gatooma,
town, central Zimbabwe. Named for nearby Kadoma (Gatooma) Hill, it was constituted a village in 1907 and received municipal status in 1917. Located in a fertile area and on the main road and railway between Harare (formerly Salisbury) and Bulawayo, the town is a commercial centre for agricultural products (cattle, cotton, corn 【maize】, and tobacco) and manufactures cotton textiles. Zimbabwe's largest gold mine is 5 miles (8 km) east-northeast at Eiffel Flats. Chrome, nickel, and pyrites are also mined. Kadoma (agricultural) Research Station was founded in 1925. Pop. (2002 prelim.) 76,173.
