private, coeducational institution of higher learning in Providence, R.I., U.S. It is affiliated with the Dominican order of the Roman Catholic (Roman Catholicism) church. The college requires students to complete a core curriculum that includes history, philosophy, and religion courses, in addition to major and elective courses. There are master's degree programs in history, religious studies, business administration, mathematics, and education. Undergraduate enrollment is approximately 3,600.
The college was founded in 1917. It became coeducational in 1971. Students can study abroad in Japan, England, Ireland, and Spain. Campus research facilities include the Quirk Institute for Labor Relations and the Feinstein Institute for Public Service.
