词条 moon
释义
moon
natural satellite
any natural satellite orbiting another body. In the solar system there are 166 moons orbiting the planets (planet). Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune have 1, 2, 63, 60, 27, and 13 moons, respectively. Other bodies in the solar system, such as dwarf planets (dwarf planet) and asteroids (asteroid), also have moons. No moons have yet been discovered around extrasolar planets (extrasolar planet).
The solar system's moons range in size from small bodies tens of metres across in orbit around asteroids to Saturn's moon Titan, which has a diameter of 5,150 km (3,200 miles). Titan is so large that it is the only moon with an atmosphere.
Some moons are of interest because they have conditions that may be favourable for life. For example, Jupiter's moon Europa has an ocean underneath its icy surface. Saturn's moon Enceladus has geysers (geyser) that spew out water and organic molecules.
