Italian automobile racing driver.

He began racing motorcycles in 1920 and won the Italian championship in 1924 and 1926 before turning to automobile competition. His first major victory in an auto race was in the 1930 Mille Miglia. Nuvolari raced as an independent driver in cars constructed by Bugatti, Maserati, and the MG firm. For most of his career, however, he drove for the Italian Alfa Romeo (until 1937) and the German Auto Union teams. He won numerous European Grands Prix, the Le Mans race (1933), the Tourist Trophy (1933), the U.S. Vanderbilt Cup (1936), and various titles, including champion of Italy (1932, 1935–36). His last great race was the Mille Miglia in 1947, when he finished second.
