释义 | Roseville California, United States city, Placer county, central California, U.S. It lies in the Sacramento Valley, 16 miles (26 km) northeast of Sacramento. The region around Roseville was once home to the Maidu Indians. The city began in 1864 as Roseville Junction on the Central Pacific Railroad, but it did not develop until the Southern Pacific Railroad's terminals and repair facilities were moved there from Rocklin in 1907. The city remains a principal railway centre for both passengers and shipping, and it also has some road freighting services, light manufacturing, and high-technology firms. Roseville experienced rapid growth in the late 20th century, when it developed as a bedroom community of Sacramento. The Roseville Telephone Museum, with displays of telephones and telephone technology from the 1890s to the present, is located in the city. In April the city hosts several popular events, including strawberry and kite festivals. Eldorado National Forest, Folsom Lake and Auburn state recreation areas, and Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park lie east of the city. Inc. 1909. Pop. (1990) 44,685; (2000) 79,921. |
