释义 | Coronado California, United States city, San Diego county, southern California, U.S. It lies on a peninsula between San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean and is linked to San Diego by the San Diego–Coronado Bay Bridge. Named after Los Coronados, a group of Mexican offshore islands, it developed around the ornate Hotel del Coronado (completed 1888; a national historic landmark) as a residential beach resort, and tourism remains one of the city's chief industries. Supplementing the economy are the U.S. Naval Air Station North Island (1917), on the northern tip of the peninsula, and the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado (1943; where the U.S. Navy SEALs train), on the Silver Strand sandbar, which connects the peninsula to the mainland. Silver Strand Beach State Park is to the south. Inc. 1890. Pop. (1990) 26,540; (2000) 24,100. |
