international steel and metals manufacturer founded in October 1999 through the merger of British Steel (British Steel Corporation PLC) of the United Kingdom and Koninklijke Hoogovens of The Netherlands. It is based in London and operates plants in The Netherlands and the United Kingdom in addition to the United States, Germany, Norway, and France. Corus employs a global workforce of nearly 50,000 in the manufacture and distribution of metals used in a variety of applications including construction, aircraft, consumer appliances, packaging, and industrial equipment.
