词条 | Verdigris River |
释义 | Verdigris River river, United States river rising southwest of Emporia, Kan., U.S., and flowing south and southeast past Neodesha, Independence, and Coffeyville and into Oklahoma to join the Arkansas River 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Muskogee, after a course of 350 miles (560 km). There are flood-control reservoirs near Toronto and Neodesha, Kan., and one near Oologah, Okla. The river's name is probably derived from a French word referring to a greenish gray substance suggesting copper ore. Its chief tributaries are the Caney, Fall, and Elk rivers. |
