词条 | Ghiordes carpet |
释义 | Ghiordes carpet ![]() Characteristics of the Ghiordes carpet include a finely stepped acute arch with prominent shoulders, and two cross panels, one above and the other below the niche, or mihrab. In the late 19th century, rugs of the Kiz-Ghiordes type, a dealers' term suggesting a girl's trousseau, became popular. After the 18th century, cotton was normally used for the weft of Ghiordes carpets, while wool was preferred in the warp. The pile is generally of wool or, rarely, of silk. After the turn of the 20th century, the quality of Ghiordes carpets declined. The symmetrical knot is often known, in the earlier rug literature, as the Ghiordes or Turkish knot. |
