释义 | wolf snake any of a number of nonvenomous members of the family Colubridae, named for large teeth in both jaws. Asian wolf snakes are placed in the genera Cercaspis (one species; Sri Lanka) and Lycodon (about 26 species; Southeast Asia), whereas African wolf snakes are placed in the genus Lycophidion (18 species). The Cape wolf snake (Lycophidion capense), abundant from Egypt to South Africa, is a small, drab species with a metallic sheen and lives chiefly on lizards. It can grow to lengths of about 50 cm (20 inches). The common wolf snake (Lycodon aulicus) is a small, brown, nocturnal serpent of southeastern Asia that eats frogs, geckos, and lizards. |
