词条 | Klang |
释义 | Klang Malaysia also spelled Kelang city and port, west-central Peninsular (West) Malaysia. It lies on the Kelang River and the 40-mile (64-km) Kuala Lumpur–Port Kelang railway. The city is an administrative centre of a rubber- and fruit-growing district. During the 19th-century tin rush, Klang served as a port of entry to the central region. Formerly noted for its coffee, it began intensive production of rubber in the 1890s, when the price of coffee fell, and rubber was planted on cleared local estates. Industries include pineapple canning and the manufacture of rubber footwear and herbicides. Nearby Connaught Bridge is a large thermal-electric power station. The Alam Shah Palace is the residence of the sultan of Selangor. Pop. (2000) city, 563,173; (2000 prelim.) urban agglom., 631,676. |
