释义 | Leptis Minor ancient city, Tunisia also called Leptiminus, or Lepti Minus, modern Lamṭah, small Carthaginian (North Africa) city located 10 miles (16 km) from modern Al-Munastīr (Ruspinum) (Monastir), Tunisia. In Roman times it was the centre of a prosperous olive-growing district, and its exports included olive oil and pottery. It was Julius Caesar (Caesar, Julius)'s base before the Battle of Thapsus (Thapsus, Battle of) in 46 BC. Under Justinian (Justinian I) it was with Capsa one of the two residences of the army commander of the province of Byzacenia, and it was later the seat of a bishopric. |
