Situated in the Eastern Highlands at an elevation of about 5,300 feet (1,600 metres), in a region known for its dense oak forests, Meru lies midway between Mount Kenya (Kenya, Mount) to the west and Meru National Park to the east. It is connected by road to Embu and is the tribal centre of the Meru people. Economic activities include the production of wooden and iron agricultural tools, earthenware pottery, and woven goods.
