Mussoorie lies at an elevation of 6,932 feet (2,112 metres) on a ridge in the foothills of the Himalayas, amidst picturesque mountain scenery. The town is a popular summer resort for residents of Delhi and the plains of Uttarakhand. The climate and surroundings make Mussoorie a suitable site for several residential schools. The town also has a botanical garden and is the summer seat of various Indian government offices. The first brewery in India was established there in 1850. Nearby sites include Gun Hill, which offers a spectacular view of the Himalayas and Mussoorie; Camel's Back Road, for hiking and horseback riding; and the Kempty, Jharipani, Bhatta, and Mossey waterfalls and surrounding forests.
