town, southwestern Himachal Pradesh (Himāchal Pradesh) state, northern India. It lies along the Soan River at an elevation of 1,815 feet (550 metres), about 60 miles (95 km) northwest of Shimla, the state capital. Formerly an important commercial centre, it declined after the construction of all-weather roads that bypass the town. Agriculture and horticulture, mainly orchards, are the basis of the economy. Manufactures include paints and varnishes, plastic bags, resin, and turpentine. Una has a government college affiliated with Himachal Pradesh University at Shimla. Pop. (2001) 15,900.
