释义 | Vivarini, Alvise Italian painter also called Luigi Vivarini born c. 1446, Murano?, Republic of Venice 【Italy】 died c. 1505 painter in the late Gothic style whose father, Antonio, was the founder of the influential Vivarini family of Venetian artists. Vivarini's earliest work is an altarpiece at Monte Fiorentino (c. 1475). Between 1483 and 1485 he was at work in southern Italy, producing altarpieces at Barletta (1483) and Naples (1485). In 1488, with Giovanni Bellini (Bellini, Giovanni), he was employed on paintings (now lost) for the Doges' Palace in Venice. His last work, an altarpiece begun in 1503 for Santa Maria dei Frari in Venice, was completed by Marco Basaiti. ![]() Additional Reading John Steer, Alvise Vivarini: His Art and Influence (1982). |
