释义 | Guéckédou Guinea town, southern Guinea, at the intersection of roads from Kailahun (Sierra Leone), Kissidougou, and Macenta. It is the chief trading centre for rice, coffee, kola nuts, and palm oil and kernels. The town is located in a forested area of the Guinea Highlands mainly inhabited by the Kisi people. Guéckédou is the site of a government hospital, a palm oil and soap factory, and a Roman Catholic mission (1951). In the early 21st century the town and its surrounding area were the centre of fighting, as rebels from Liberia launched attacks against the Guinean army. The region was also home to numerous refugees who had fled the civil unrest in nearby countries. Pop. (1996) 79,140. |
