释义 | Mittenwald Germany village, Bavaria Land (state), southern Germany. It lies along the Isar River, at the foot of the Karwendel Mountains, at the Austrian border. Chartered in 1307, it was an important trading centre in the 15th and 16th centuries. The village has been famous since the 17th century for its violins, and it has a museum and school of violin making. Zithers and guitars are also made there. Mittenwald is a health and vacation resort and a winter sports centre with a chairlift up the nearby Hoher Kranz Mountain (4,564 feet 【1,391 metres】). Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak at 9,718 feet (2,962 metres), is just west of Mittenwald. Pop. (1999 est.) 8,197. |
