Pacific seaport, western Panama, on Charco Azul Bay, west-southwest of David, near the Costa Rican border. It is the headquarters of the Chiriquí Land Company, a United Fruit Company subsidiary, which maintains scientifically operated plantations in the area. The port was developed in the 1930s to serve the banana-growing region. Pop. (2000) 17,997.
