释义 | Charlot, André French theatrical impresario and actor in full André-eugène-maurice Charlot born July 26, 1882, Paris, France died May 20, 1956, Hollywood, Calif., U.S. French theatrical impresario best remembered for the musical revues (revue) that he produced in London from 1912 to 1937. Charlot assisted in the management of several theatres in Paris, including the Folies-Bergère and the Palais-Royal. In 1912 he became joint manager of the Alhambra Theatre in London. As a master of the revue, Charlot, along with his chief rival, Sir Charles Blake Cochran (Cochran, Sir Charles Blake), introduced and popularized the intimate revue in England, producing 36 of them between 1915 and 1935. Noël Coward debuted as a revue writer with Charlot in 1923. Later, Charlot's Hour was presented by the British Broadcasting Corporation. In 1937 he went to Hollywood, where from 1942 to 1955 he played character roles in more than two dozen films. |
